Knights of Columbus Council 12172 at St. Mark’s Catholic Community, Boise was one of only 70 councils, out of thousands worldwide, to earn the Contest of Champions for recruiting. Also, the council earned the K of C most prestigious International Award – Star Council. This award recognized our service-oriented activities, membership recruitment and retention, and fraternal insurance program promotion. It contributed $400 to Risen Christ Knights’ FREE medical equipment loan program (208.888.3782); funded and helped prepare the Parish Refugee Garden. Parish support for the Knights’ 40 Cans for Lent project helped them collect 6 TONS (12,000 pounds) of food for Saint Mark’s Food Bank, serving everyone. Helped serve Thanksgiving dinner for veterans and their families. Participated in Special Olympics events, raising more than $6,000 for the organization. Set up, served and cleaned up after numerous Parish funeral dinners. Participated in March for Life and Pro-Life Rally at Idaho’s capitol; and prayer vigils outside Planned Parenthood facilities. Council member drove mobile ultrasound-equipped van to outlying areas, providing FREE services. Also, they hosted an annual Free Throw Contest. Coached St. Mark’s Catholic School athletic teams; assisted serving and monitoring school lunches. More than 1.9 million Knights of Columbus members worldwide annually donate more than $177 million and 75 million hours of service to charitable causes. Practicing Catholic men 18 years or older should prayerfully consider joining the Knights.
